Should I recommend this place to the radically complex?

What is the community consensus on this platform? Is it good to suggest to people who have had heaps of disappointment with other attempts at seeking understanding from institutional style support and struggle finding an in for help?

Re: Should I recommend this place to the radically complex?

Hi @Koop-da_loop and welcome.

This space could definitely be a suitable community to recommend. It's all about the peer-to-peer connections of people with lived experience of complex mental health. Many members here have experienced institutional trauma, fallen through the gaps, or been told they are 'too hard-basket'. The space also has peer support workers, with their own lived experience, who are here to support members between 10am-10pm.

Happy to answer any further questions you may have 🙂

Re: Should I recommend this place to the radically complex?

I'll preface by saying that I do not consent to being tagged

But I wanted to say that it depends on the individual. I have known sufferers in other communities for whom being a member here was counter productive or damaging to their healing journey

Some people are better equipped than others to gauge early if something will work, others will persevere to their detriment

You obviously know this person reasonably well, so use that as a guide

Hi @Koop-da_loop ,

If they are looking for something, I guess they themselves can have a look to see if they are interested in any of SANE's services:

SANE’s Guided Recovery – this is a 1:1 program that runs for approximately 16 weeks.

SANE’s Recovery Club – these groups are held via Zoom and focus on a range of recovery topics.

SANE’s Recovery Community (Forums) – this is a moderated peer-to-peer space for members to connect and support each other.

The Guided Recovery is the most intensive with the Forums being the least intensive. Participants can move between the three services.

I think with people, it's good for them to make the choice but there's no harm in sharing resources.

Hey @Koop-da_loop , how are you?

Re: Should I recommend this place to the radically complex?

hi @Koop-da_loop while everyone's answer will differ, I persnally feel this space is not safe for radically complex or vulnerable people.

To keep this space safe, my advice was that people should use it cautiously, and with firm boundaries.

the below comment requesting not to be tagged is a good example. It can be a bit institutional here, so it may be triggering if you have bad experiences with instituions. Boundaries are harder online.

However, there are radically complex, and sincere individuals here. So that is a big win. Services aren't safe for me either in my current situation, and at times when I have spoken about it, I have had difficult treatment here.

So i wouldn't say to recommend this, and i probably wouldn't recommend it to others. For me it hasn't been beneficial and I personally probably regret using this space and not making my own mind up. I am attached to some people here so I have stayed but probably for me it was deterimental. I also have no way of soothing that wound.

The best places for complex people, in my opinion, is not online in general, although perhaps that is ableist of me as online helps those who can't get out physically.

Congratulations on being curious and wanting the best care for yourself and those you know. I wish I was more like you. I hope you find the best space for you. Certainly this space helps some people, and as previoulsy mentioned, is deterimental to others.

Re: Should I recommend this place to the radically complex?

hi @holdinghope5 just being clear, you are a moderator, it sounded like the user was asking for vibe check on how people felt using the space.

as a moderator, would your experience maybe be a bit different, and also not really align with the request for service user responses?

Please don't speak for us .

Re: Should I recommend this place to the radically complex?

I'm well thank you. This forum popped up on my Facebook. In my work I come across people who have trouble getting help and I'm looking for options for them. I understand the barriers. I can only do what is in my scope.

Re: Should I recommend this place to the radically complex?

I very much appreciate your perspective. Thank you.
